The Gedling Herbalist – Anke Wellhausen BSc (Hons) MNIMH
Herbal medicine is the use of plants to treat illness and to support health. Plants are the traditional medicines of peoples and cultures across the world and are still used by 80% of the global population today. Many of our pharmaceutical drugs are derived from plants.
Herbal medicine provides a natural, more gentle treatment with generally fewer side effects, which makes it particularly suitable for chronic conditions. Treatment focuses on the person as a whole and works with the body’s natural ability to heal.
Anke is a fully qualified Western Medical Herbalist. She trained at the University of East London and graduated with a BSc (Hons) degree in Herbal Medicine. As part of the course she studied anatomy, pathology, biochemistry, pharmacology, differential diagnosis, clinical examination and herbal therapeutics. As a medical herbalist Anke is trained in herb/drug interactions and will treat safely alongside pharmaceutical medications. She is able to carry out routine physical examinations, like taking blood pressure. She is skilled to diagnose and will know when to refer.
Anke believes in integrative healthcare as a way of achieving the best possible outcome for the patient. She aims to find health solutions tailored to the individual which promote long term health as well as addressing acute problems.
Herbal medicine can be used on its own or alongside conventional treatment for a wide range of common health problems.
