True North Therapy – Richard Lamb:
I am Richard Lamb, an NLP-trained life coach, clinical hypnotherapist and psychotherapist in Nottingham, East Midlands. I have been in practice for 3 years and have a broad range of client experience, from long-term coaching to short-term hypnotherapy and psychotherapy.
After a life-changing winter mountaineering fall in 2001, I decided to take action (the vital ingredient to any change work) to explore the principles and techniques for how to change the way I felt, communicated and acted. This involved my exploring NLP, hypnosis, and other integrative therapies, which is how I came to become a therapist and coach. Over the years I have naturally oriented my life experiences and training to assisting people through challenging life transitions at key points in life, some of which have included assisting people with pain management, which I have direct experience of in the past, as a result of amputations sustained from the mountaineering fall. My work is primarily with individuals, though I also work with groups in the area of self-care, e.g. Stress Management and Pain Management.
My main interests lie in a range of directions. Therapeutically I enjoy the inclusion of life coaching, psychotherapy and clinical hypnosis in a holistic approach to guiding others towards their ‘inner true north’. As part this framework I value the insights of depth psychology, specifically Psychosynthesis, and the challenge of taking an integrative, holistic approach to working with crisis and trauma. My time as a mountaineer re-created within me a deep respect for and joy in Nature, and through this appreciation, overtime I became a student of a number of the great wisdom traditions of the world. Beyond the consulting room I take especial delight in good cooking for close friends and family, a broad taste in literature and music, an active and frequent interest in yoga and mindfulness, and enjoy life with my partner and family.

When we have a problem, we try and think our way out of it. But sometimes just thinking about a problem doesn’t really make a difference, like deciding to lose weight, or give up smoking. NLP with Louisa Lera
Neuro Linguistic Programming is sometimes used alongside hypnotherapy to enhance its effectiveness; it consists of a range of techniques that tune into the ways we think about things. For example, if someone is afraid of spiders and you ask them to describe a spider, they may give you an image of a spider the size of a dinner plate! With NLP, I help people access how they are thinking and use techniques to change how they see, hear and feel about the problem on the inside.

How many sessions might you need? Everyone is different! Clients often come with long standing problems, so it makes sense that it can take time to get your life back on track.
