Chiropractic Treatment at The Magnolia Therapy Centre, Nottingham

What is McTimoney Chiropractic

McTimoney Chiropractors are graduates of McTimoney College Chiropractic. The college bases its training on a particular technique developed by a chiropractor called John McTimoney. The technique is quite distinctive and a separate branch of chiropractic and is distinguished by its whole-body approach to chiropractic care.  The approach is based on the view that discomfort and pain in one part of the body may be as a result of problems elsewhere in the musculo-skeletal system and that the whole musculo-skeletal system needs to work harmoniously together and be treated accordingly.

Their main tool is a specific type of adjustment that doesn’t cause the audible popping or cracking sound. McTimoney Chiropractors are trained to correct misalignments using light, quick and specific adjustments.  Most people experience little or no discomfort when receiving a McTimoney Method treatment.

The most common conditions treated are:

  • Back, neck and shoulder pain
  • Pain, discomfort, and stiffness in joints
  • Muscular aches
  • Falls and accidents

Liam Mulvany - Chiropractor

Liam qualified as a McTimoney Chiropractor in 1991. He now works from three centres around the Midlands.

Liam chose the McTimoney technique after experiencing dramatic results from his own first chiropractic treatment.

” I can still remember how I felt after my first treatment back in the late 80’s”

The McTimoney technique works by correcting skeletal asymmetry, paying particular emphasis to the pelvis. Liam often explains “that the pelvis has a greater influence on the rest of the body than the rest of the body does the pelvis.”

The low back is “governed” by the level of the pelvis. Level pelvis equates to straight spine.  A pelvic tilt causes the vertebrae in the low back to start to pull to one side putting massive stresses on the lumbar/ sacral junction. (low back). This is a possible cause of many low back problems.
