EMDR

What is EMDR?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) was developed – and is best known – as a therapy for treating trauma or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

EMDR helps you process the negative images, emotions, beliefs and body sensations associated with traumatic memories that seem to be stuck. These can contribute to a range of mental health problems.

EMDR requires specific training and specialist skills to deliver it safely and competently through a structured process. It encourages the client to briefly focus on the traumatic memory while simultaneously experiencing bilateral stimulation (typically eye movements). The process enables a reduction in the vividness and emotional intensity associated with traumatic memories.

EMDR can also help with:
• Chronic pain
• Social Anxiety
• Low self esteem
• Drug & alcohol addiction cravings
• Obsessive compulsive disorders

Coming for counselling is a brave step, you need to feel safe and comfortable to work through your problems. I can offer you that safe confidential place in comfortable surroundings to suit your needs.

My name is Julie Crosby and i have 27 yrs experience working alongside clients with a wide variety of difficulties. I have extensive training in all therapy approaches such as CBT, psycho-dynamic and person centred approach. I am registered and abide by AD/SMMGP code of conduct.

Some of my work has involved working with addiction and the families of those who have addiction problems. I am familiar with the ’12 Steps’ approach to recovery and can signpost to other appropriate support.

I am a level 2 practitioner in EMDR and have worked successfully with many clients over the last 10 yrs to reduce the effects of trauma.

EMDR (eye movement desensitisation reprocessing) is a form of psychotherapy for resolving the symptoms of trauma and other disturbing life experiences. It is particularly helpful for those who suffer from ‘flash backs’ of an event.  EMDR is a combination of techniques and talking therapy and requires a willingness to re-visit the trauma to begin to reduce its effects.

If you think EMDR may help you, I’m happy to assess and discuss the benefits of EMDR and explain the way it works.

If you need help with any of the following issues I am happy to assess and discuss further to see if we can work together.

  • Addiction
  • Stress
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Sexual abuse (historical)
  • Trauma
  • Couples counselling

Roxanne Freeman : BACP Accredited Psychotherapist, EMDR Therapist and Clinical Supervisor

About me:

I am a BACP Accredited Psychotherapist, EMDR Therapist and Clinical Supervisor. I work from an Integrative Approach, drawn from a number of therapeutic approaches, this allows me to be flexible and adapt how I work, many clients find this helpful as it offers us an opportunity to find and use what the client finds most helpful.

I offer clients a confidential and non-judgemental space to explore their challenges and make positive changes. If you have unresolved issues from your past, struggling in the present or fearful of the future.

As a fully qualified EMDR therapist, I work both within the NHS and privately and have seen how effective EMDR therapy can be without talking about the past trauma. I have had clients that have had years of talking therapies but are still haunted by past events and still feel stuck with their life, after EMDR therapy it has helped them move forward with their lives.

Roxanne Freeman New

For some people, when something traumatic has happened to them, the memory of their experience comes crashing back into their mind, forcing them to relive the event with the same intensity of feeling – like it is taking place in the present moment. These experiences may present as flashbacks or nightmares and are thought to occur because the mind was simply too overwhelmed during the event to process what was going on.

As a result, these unprocessed memories and the accompanying sights, sounds, thoughts and feelings are stored in the brain in ‘raw’ form. Here, they can be accessed when something in everyday life triggers a recollection of the original event.

While it isn’t possible to erase these memories, the process of eye movement desensitisation reprocessing (EMDR) can alter the way these traumatic memories are stored within the brain – making them easier to manage.

EMDR therapy can help with:

  • Trauma
  • PTSD
  • Abuse
  • Depression
  • Childhood Trauma
  • Phobias and Fears
  • Anxiety
  • Low Self Esteem
  • Confidence

Liz Frings : Person Centred and Attachment Informed EMDR therapist

Hi! I’m Liz a Person Centred and attachment informed EMDR therapist based at The Magnolia Centre and online.

Person centred therapy can help with a wide range of challenges, from anxiety and low self-esteem to relationship difficulties and life transitions.

AI- EMDR Therapy

Attachment Informed/focused EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy offers a proven, evidence-based path to recovery that helps your brain process and move on from trauma and adversities.

Trauma is not confined to single event experiences or those we typically think of when we hear the word trauma. Trauma can also be from relational.

Liz Frings

Relational trauma develops when our closest relationships — particularly in childhood, but sometimes in adult life too — become a source of fear, confusion, or pain rather than safety and comfort. Because human beings are fundamentally wired for connection, when the relationships we rely on feel unpredictable, threatening, or emotionally absent, the impact can be profound and far-reaching.

The difficulty is that they tend to create the very disconnection that causes you problems in your everyday life.

Person centred therapy and attachment informed EMDR goes deeper, identifying the roots of the patterns and providing opportunities to have important emotional experiences that support the nervous system to heal and rewire.

Whether it is EMDR you are seeking or Person-Centred Therapy, or perhaps a blend of both, get in touch to talk it through.

I believe a warm, affirming therapeutic relationship is the core of healing work.
A place to be yourself.
