Psychotherapy and Counselling at The Magnolia Therapy Centre, Nottingham
Counselling & Psychotherapy : What to look for.
If you decide to explore private counselling or psychotherapy, check the therapist is registered with a professional body. This means they are committed to good practice, ethical conduct, and continuous learning and development. All of the therapists working at the Centre are qualified, registered with a professional body and insured.
Specialism
If it’s important to you, check if they have a specialism (for example, some therapists specialise in working with particular issues or groups such as younger people, LGBTQ+ people, neurodiversity or survivors of abuse and violence
Type of therapy
You will find that most counsellors/psychotherapists are trained in different models and theoretical approaches and often describe themselves in this way. In practice, most therapists do much the same thing no matter what their training.
Relationship
Research has shown that one of the most important aspects of counselling and psychotherapy is the relationship you form with your therapist. A strong relationship will help you to overcome the challenges you face in the present and to heal from painful events in the past. You may not get the right match initially, but persevere, there will be someone you can work with. Some offer an introductory telephone, teams, or face to face session which might be a consideration for you.
Ways of working
Would you like to meet online, in-person or on the phone? Does the therapist offer blended if you work irregular hours or are they willing to offer different appointment times to fit in with your lifestyle and work patterns? These might be considerations to ensure continuity of therapy.
We have several counsellors and psychotherapists working with different modalities. Take a look at their profiles below. Many have links to their own websites or other professional directories which you may find very useful.
Needing urgent support?

Sharon Turner Counselling Services
Sharon Turner Counselling Services: Individual and Couples therapist experienced in working with change, loss, trauma and relationship difficulties.
Your journey through life’s changes is a chance for self-discovery.
Counselling is an opportunity for self-development and discovery. It can promote growth and healing from many different situations. You may be experiencing a range of issues you are struggling to understand or come to terms which can lead to uncomfortable feelings. Are you experiencing loss or grief? Have you been affected by trauma, either your own or someone else’s? Are you feeling anxious, stressed or depressed, or feeling unable to cope with life’s changes? Difficult feelings can affect work, social and home life; it can affect how you feel about yourself, others and situations. Health issues can bring many different feelings too. These may be current or in the past which are affecting you now. Through counselling you have the opportunity to develop your self-awareness to promote acceptance or change; to learn skills to help you through the difficult times. Counselling gives you the potential to achieve positive growth through exploration in a safe and confidential relationship.
Who I work with and my approach
I work with individuals over sixteen years of age and couples, companies or charities offering face to face and online video appointments. Using a variety of counselling therapies I tailor my approach to your individual needs. Working together, you make the choices of what you bring to sessions and I would like to listen and help you explore the meaning, feelings and emotions behind your difficulties. I believe everyone should have the right to be self-directing so putting you at the heart of our work, I use an eclectic approach to support you to the best of my ability in a non-directive way.
With couples I use a more directive approach as we explore your relationship together. I cover issues such as conflict, affairs, empty nest issues, intimacy issues helping you identify your own and partner’s needs. Whatever difficulties you may be experiencing I can support you as you learn more about yourselves and your relationships.

Rape and sexual abuse can impact on many areas of a client’s life, and new or current relationships can be affected by past and current violence. I can support you with flashbacks, panic attacks and other trauma related issues.

Kirsty Weedon Psychodrama Psychotherapy
I provide therapy to help you feel more connected, resourced and regulated. I work in a creative, embodied and integrated way, considering your somatic (body) experience as well as your emotions and thoughts. I use therapeutic methods that invite you to work creatively and experientially, supporting you to learn more about yourself, connect with your resources and explore new and different ways to navigate life. For example, you may want to use objects to look at the various stresses in your life and see what is being missed or use empty chairs to give voice to that part of yourself that has been overlooked. These methods are flexible, adapted to you and I work collaboratively to find a pace that fits for you where you feel safe and supported.
About me
I am passionate about supporting people to feel safe and connected with themselves, their community and nature. Before becoming a psychotherapist, I worked in a range of different outdoor and educational settings across the UK and abroad, in both the voluntary and statutory sector. I’ve also set up and run many of my own collaborative and solo private ventures. I’m a qualified Psychodrama Psychotherapist, registered with the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). I work from a trauma-informed, relational approach, integrating various different theoretical perspectives in my work, including attachment theory and polyvagal theory.
How to get started
I understand how important it is to find the right therapy and therapist for you. I offer an initial meeting for you to discuss what you want to achieve from therapy and to see if I can provide you with the help you need at this time. There is no commitment or obligation to continue therapy with me afterwards.
For more information, please contact me by text, phone or email. I look forward to hearing from you. Warmest wishes, Kirsty

Jo Dean : Counsellor MBACP
Jo understands how big this first step is. Her role as a Humanistic and Integrative therapist is to provide you with a safe and confidential space to talk and help you explore the challenges you are currently facing.
Abigail Pleasant ~Accredited & Registered Integrative Psychotherapist (UKCP) ~ BA (hons), MA, PGCE.
Hello and a warm welcome to my profile. I am a teacher and Integrative psychotherapist: my core modal is relational, attachment based and dialogic. Additionally, I have undertaken many additional trainings to broaden my skill set. I specialise in the areas: relationships, the mother relationship, complex loss, women’s issues, childhood trauma and attachment, sadness and anxiety.
I have a passion for supporting people who seek personal change and growth; I believe that the therapeutic relationship is integral to change and healing. I provide a space to explore unconscious materials; a non-judgmental ear to speak in confidence with about difficult experiences; an attentive space to understand your feelings and the patterns that are holding you back from living a fulfilling life, where you feel able to be the best version of yourself. I do believe that we are all on a life journey with our own unique stories: our past shapes us but it need not define us; psychotherapy with a skilled practitioner can support you to lead a more fulfilling and authentic life. I am committed to facilitate self-transformation through a trusting therapeutic relationship, to explore your own issues at your own pace. My approach to therapy is to help you develop self-awareness and to support you to have a deeper connection and level of contact with yourself and others. I am compassionate, relational and insightful. I work in a holistic way with all aspects of you; your feelings, thought processes, behaviour, cultural identity and spirituality.
I believe that the human experience inevitably entails suffering and pain and so psychotherapy can be beneficial to anyone at certain points in their life: to quote the famous poet Rumi: “The wound is the place where the light enters you,” enabling a fuller and richer existence. Here are some reasons that prompt people to seek therapy – although this list is by no means exhaustive:
- Personal or spiritual growth.
- Life challenges.
- Relationship difficulties.
- A sense of dis-ease or disconnection.
- Difficult childhood experiences.
- Traumatic events.
- Losses & Bereavements.
- Overwhelming emotions.
- Making important or difficult decisions.
- Behaviours or repetitive patterns that you would like to change.
- Self-defeating or obsessive thoughts.
- Self-criticism and self-doubt.
Training and Qualifications:
I am an accredited humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapist. I completed my Masters in Psychotherapy at the Sherwood Psychotherapy Institute in 2005 and have 15 years experience working with a diverse range of adults and young people. I am a member of UKCP, which provides me with an ethical framework.
As part of my training and personal journey, I have engaged in over 7 years of therapy and gained an in-depth personal understanding of the therapeutic process myself; this has enabled me to work at emotional depth with clients. I have worked with many individuals over the past 15 years; some examples of my experience include: young people and children, university students at the University of Sheffield, psychotherapy trainees, woman issues and sexual issues, emotional instability, feelings of worthlessness, social anxiety, abuse, perfectionism, mother issues, trauma and bereavement. I have also worked on a weight-loss immersion camp, as a behavioural coach, supporting people to develop healthy sustainable habits.
Additionally, I have much experience of working in diverse educational settings as a teacher and with SEN in primary schools; I have delivered psycho-educational play-based activities to support children with emotional, social and behavioural issues, as well as ASD and speech and language needs.
Getting Started:
You can contact me via email or get in touch via phone; leave a voicemail or text message if you prefer. I will endeavour to get back to you as soon as possible and within 24 – 48 hours. We will arrange a first meeting and talk about what you want to get out of therapy; if you are happy to continue, I will set up a second session and arrange for regular meetings at a mutually convenient time. I look forward to hearing from you.
HearingYou Psychotherapy Susanne Sklepek-Hatton, MSc, M.A., BA (Hons), MUKCP (Accred.)
Why therapy?
You may seek therapy at a life crossroad where you are feeling stuck with a seemingly unsolvable conflict. You may want to come to therapy because you feel too much (including triggers and phobias) or nothing at all and as a result you might have developed addictive and/or compulsive behaviours that can also make you feel ashamed and lonely. You may simply need help to gain clarity on the future of a particular relationship or a major life decision, such as a change in career. You might have been impacted by external life circumstances (divorce, career change, bereavement, COVID) that have challenged your sense of who you are.
How can I help?
I will sit with you in a safe, confidential space, listen to you and together we will get to know your inner world, however messy, complex and conflicted it may seem to begin with. By hearing all of you with warmth and empathy we will gain a sense of how you got to where you are. There might be conflicting parts within your world (especially those that drive behaviour that you don’t like, that is seemingly ‘not you’) that need to be heard with empathy and care, to allow you to move forward in your life with purpose, agency and a sense of wholeness. For some people, this might mean going back to their childhood and addressing unresolved trauma that has left a lifelong imprint on their life and behaviour whilst others choose to work with the here and now only. In most cases we move between the two, always at the pace and at a depth that is right for you.
My training and experience
Following previous careers in higher education and the arts, I feel lucky and privileged to have found my own professional ‘home’ in training as Person-Centred and Experiential Psychotherapist at the Sherwood Psychotherapy Training Institute (MSc, Distinction). My training included several years of undergoing my own personal therapy which gave my my own experience of the deeply transformative effects of feeling seen, heard and ‘felt’ in a safe therapeutic space.
I have experience working with a wide range of clients of different genders, ages, sexual orientations and cultures with varied presentations and depth of issues. I have undertaken additional training that has allowed me to work with clients who have experienced individual or long-term childhood trauma and/or whose needs as children were not met by their caregivers. I also have experience working with clients with Autism and ADHD and I am particularly interested in the intersection between trauma and neurodivergence (whether self or externally diagnosed). I am currently participating in an ongoing programme called SBSM (Smart Body/ Smart Mind) that is focused on post-traumatic nervous system healing and the return to an embodied, purposeful way of being.
Amongst others I have undertaken training in the following areas:
- Working with Shame
- Working with Child Sexual Abuse – Hope for Healing
- When Trauma Gets Stuck
- Working with Trauma Triggers and Flashbacks
- Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction
- Working with Trauma Memory
- Inner Child Workshop
- IFS in Action: Leading Clients to Self Leadership
- Understanding & Working With Autistic Clients in Therapy
- ADHD, Neurodiversity, and Clinical Practice
- Polyvagal Theory in Action
I am accredited with the UKCP and I adhere to their codes and ethical framework. I have full professional indemnity insurance and enhanced DBS clearance.
I am a full clinical member of the following organisations:
UKCP: Registered Clinical Member of the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy.
HIPC: Registered Clinical Member of the Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy College.
SPTI: Graduate Member of the Sherwood Psychotherapy Training Institute

Perhaps you are having difficulties in your relationship with your partner or your family? I am an experienced psychotherapist and I specialise in relationship issues and sexual difficulties.
About me – how I can help
If you are experiencing difficulties, feeling confused or stuck and not sure how to change or move forward in yourself and/or in your relationships, then perhaps counselling is going to help you. I offer a safe and supportive space in which you can reflect on what is going in your life and help you understand yourself and your relationships more clearly and work towards any changes you would like to make. My approach
I am an integrative therapist which means I combine elements of different therapeutic theories. My practice is mostly based on two key approaches: family therapy (how we interact with others) and psychodynamic theory (our inner thoughts and beliefs from childhood to the present). The tools and techniques I draw on depend on the client’s presenting problems and our agreed goals for therapy

Sarah Lewin – Psychotherapist & Hypnotherapist (MBACP)
I have a BSc hons degree in Humanistic/Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy from the Sherwood Psychotherapy training institute.
Humanistic psychotherapy believes that all humans have an inbuilt drive for growth and self-actualisation, and those that present for therapy obviously have.
I am passionate about people and supporting people to live their best lives. It takes strength and courage to seek therapy and to be open to growth and change. But it brings much reward.
I have experience of working with grief, emotional relational abuse, trauma, adverse childhood experiences and depression and anxiety. You may just feel that something is missing in your life, and you want to explore what that might be. You may be wanting support with important decision making or figuring our what you want from life.
As a Humanistic Integrative Psychotherapist, I work from a non-medical, non-pathologising model. I ask what has happened to you rather than what is wrong with you.
The therapeutic relationship between therapist and client is the most important element of therapy and is the agent of change. I can offer you a confidential, safe and supportive space to share and explore your past, present and future and help you to begin to find more fulfilment in your life.
I work online and face to face with adults only and offer long and short-term therapy which is guided by you and how much you feel you want or need to work. Patty Middleton: Therapist & Supervisor for Individuals and Couples
My therapeutic approach is to understand how you may be experiencing obstacles in terms of where you want to be in your life, in your relationship with others or your own identity. Often these obstacles may be influenced from the experiences we lived through historically and the stories we have learned to believe of ourselves as we’ve grown up. You may have experienced a trauma or be looking for support with a mental health diagnosis. Through therapy we will aim to address these experiences and use them as opportunities for growth encouraging you to develop your internal and external emotional connections. I believe that the answers are already within you, but perhaps slightly out of awareness at the moment.
Our work will aim to move you closer to achieving a new understanding of yourself and others.
If you are looking for relationship counselling, I can help you understand and navigate any issues causing tension or conflict, by understanding the patterns we develop and how these can be helpful or harmful. I have previously worked in the public sector for over 20 years working with relationship difficulties.
I have experience of working in short-, medium- or long-term counselling and our work together will be focussed on what the best fit for your needs are.
I offer supervision for therapists, trainee or qualified, or anyone who works professionally using therapeutic competencies. I aim to work creatively to assist you in celebrating your successes as a therapist and to develop the competencies you would like to enhance. I am approved to work with students by the Sherwood Institute of Psychotherapy.
I provide a confidential, non-judgemental (and perhaps, if appropriate, humorous!), ethically aware approach and appreciate how difficult it can be reaching out to ask for support.
I offer a free 20-minute call to discuss your goals and for you to gain a sense of who I am and if you feel we would work well together. The relationship between therapist and client is cited as the most important factor in change, more than the particular approach, so finding the right therapist is important.
I qualified as a therapist in 2020 having completed the MSc in Integrative Psychotherapy at the Sherwood Institute of Psychotherapy, accredited with the UKCP, my Diploma in Couples Counselling (2022) and the Diploma in Supervision (2024) also with the Sherwood Institute. I have worked in community rehabilitation, mental health and forensic psychological environments since 2002 and am also currently a counsellor and supervisor at Nottingham Talking Therapies with experience of working with addiction and neurodivergence.
I work from the Magnolia Therapy Centre on a Monday and Friday, telephone, online or face to face.

Tori Hodierne: Psychotherapeutic Counsellor
I am a UKCP accredited (2011184364) and BACP registered (416699) psychotherapeutic counsellor, offering both short-term and long-term weekly one-to-one counselling for adult clients.
I believe that the problems that bring people to counselling often originate in the ways we have had to adapt in our early relationships (particularly with our caregivers) as well as to a world that does not always recognise who we are or what we need to thrive. My approach to counselling is not about ‘fixing’ you but about creating a space and a relationship where you can start to understand and accept yourself more fully, as you are now. I do not follow a rigid procedure and will work flexibly and collaboratively with you to find the right way of helping you.
I am queer and autistic myself (my pronouns are they/them) and I have a particular interest in working with queer and neurodivergent clients, although I welcome clients from all walks of life.
My current fee for new clients is £70 per 50-minute session. I also offer a limited number of reduced-fee spaces at £50 per session.

Laura Halliwell : Counsellor
As a person-centred counsellor I fully immerse myself in your world, and I commit to working with you, whatever struggles you face. I offer an open encounter where I help foster in you a greater sense of self-worth and agency. I practice a non-directive approach where I listen, helping you to hear your own needs and realise what changes you want to make. My work has supported those facing multiple struggles, notably: grief, depression, loneliness, infidelity, the processing of new diagnoses, anxiety, suicidal ideation, self-esteem struggles, relationship complexities, and control around alcohol, weight and compulsive behaviours.
I work anti-diagnostically, believing that these behaviours often make sense in the context of your life, but that together, the therapeutic relationship can help you develop an understanding about where these behaviours and thoughts originate, and how you might develop more helpful behaviours in the future.
Making time for yourself begins the process of self-care, and whatever tangled struggle you manage, I endeavour to be alongside you, no difficulty being too big or too small. Shame grows in the darkness, so together I will bring light and love, to help you move in the direction your authentic self seeks. I believe it is the relationship that heals.
I am typically available on a Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

Millicent Brisset: Behavioural Cognitive Psychotherapist Therapist (CBT)
I am a Behavioural Cognitive Psychotherapist Therapist (CBT) accredited with the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP). I have over 10 years of work experience in treating clients with numerous psychological complexities, working with individuals and couples.
For more than 30 years, I have worked in the NHS specialising in Mental Health and IAPT psychological therapy services. I stay updated on the latest evidence-based practices through ongoing training.
What is CBT?
Cognitive behavioural therapy is an active and solution-focused form of therapy. CBT is a psychological treatment of choice for depression, anxiety and a range of other emotional disorders. The basic principle of CBT is that our emotional reactions such as anxiety, sadness, anger and guilt are not only from situations in themselves but also from the perception we take of them.
In retrospect, our thoughts, feelings and behaviours primed up a vicious cycle which could maintain ongoing problems, therefore, makes it difficult for any changes to take place. CBT focus on trying to intercept this vicious cycle through exploring our beliefs, thoughts and behaviours by finding alternative ways to change them. Subsequently, empowering the client to move towards a more confident mind and to improve their daily lives.
As a dedicated CBT therapist, I am deeply invested in guiding individuals through their process of psychological growth to their path of well-being. I tailor evidenced-based strategies to address individual challenges, fostering resilience and positive change. In my approach, I blend empathy with skilful interventions, and commitment creating an open non-judgemental, and accepting atmosphere. Together we will address your thoughts, emotions, and behaviours working towards a sustainable positive change. I am here to support you in unlocking your potential for a more balanced fulfilling life.

Helen Catling: Way Through the Woods
I’m an Integrative counsellor and psychotherapist working from a person-centred perspective, with adults and young people over 16.
Whatever your concerns, I offer you empathy, warmth and a safe space to express yourself freely without judgment. I believe that you, the client, are unique and your emotions, concerns and goals are the priority. You are the expert in deciding what you need, I am here to guide you, helping you to feel safe enough to explore.
I can offer a short course of focussed counselling or longer-term therapy, depending on your wishes.
People come to therapy at different stages of readiness. Some arrive knowing exactly what they want to change. Others come because someone else has noticed they’re struggling, or because something inside just doesn’t feel right. Wherever you are, that’s where we start.
Style of counselling
As an Integrative counsellor, I blend different approaches to counselling tailored to each person’s needs and choices. I work with Attachment theory, exploring how our early childhood relationships affect our relationships as adults. I use Cognitive Behavioural Therapy to help clients change unhelpful patterns. I sometimes incorporate mindfulness for mental clarity and relaxation.
My journey
Before becoming a counsellor, I worked in the legal profession with clients who were experiencing relationship breakdown. This gave me an understanding of the difficult experiences many people suffer, brought about by separation and divorce. Trauma, loneliness, grief, parenting conflicts, loss of identity, to name just a few.
I have also been a foster parent. Fostering gave me an insight into the many issues faced by young people in care, and also some of the challenges in meeting their needs as a therapeutic carer .
My life experiences made me increasingly passionate about mental health, leading me to study for an MSc in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy.
I chose the name ‘Way Through the Woods’ because it describes my vision of counselling. You choose the direction, and I walk beside you – not leading from the front or pushing from behind. My person-centred approach means I trust that you have your own inner sense of the right path.
I see change as a process – not something you force, but something that unfolds naturally when you feel safe, supported and understood
Qualifications / training
I have been counselling since 2023 working in a mixture of charity and private placements.
I trained at the University of Derby obtaining a Postgraduate Diploma in 2024 and MSc in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy in 2025
I am fully insured with enhanced DBS certificate.
I am a member of the BACP.
Contact and fees
When you’ve decided to seek help, finding the right counsellor can be daunting. I offer a free initial phone call, without any expectation to commit, so you can decide if my counselling is a good fit for you. I am flexible about how we work together- in person, online or by phone. I work from two venues, one near Mansfield and one in Nottingham.

Andrea Daykin, C.Psychol, AFBPsS – PSYCHOLOGY & CAT PSYCHOTHERAPY SERVICE
A little about me:
Hello, my name is Andrea. I am a BPS Chartered and HCPC Registered Practitioner Psychologist, UKCP Registered Psychotherapist in Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) and ACAT Accredited Supervisor in CAT. I have 20 years’ experience working in a range of settings within the NHS which has given me a wealth of experience of helping adults with a range of issues including anger, low mood, anxiety, and relationship difficulties. Alongside my NHS work I ran a small private practice for 6 years where I have seen people for a range of issues such as depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem, work related stress, grief and loss. Since 2020 I have been working full time in private practice.
What is CAT and can it help you?
CAT is a therapy where your therapist works with you rather than ‘telling’ you. We decide together how many sessions you are likely to need to reach your goals. It is a relational approach which means we work together to develop a shared understanding of your difficulties and what you would like to change. We explore the way you think, feel and act and how your experiences earlier in life underlie these. Having a diagnosis is not important to access CAT, so you don’t have to consider yourself to have a mental health problem for CAT to help you make changes to your life.
Common issues that people wish to work on include:
- feeling like your friendships or relationships are one sided and that you are always there to support others;
- constantly striving to be the best you can be and then feeling disappointed or like you have failed in some way;
- going along with what others want and feeling like your own needs are not important;
- feeling angry, anxious or low in mood and not sure where these feelings come from.
I have received training in other therapeutic approaches such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), which I can incorporate into your therapy. This helps to ensure the work we are doing together is tailored to your specific needs and helps you to achieve your goals.
How long is a CAT therapy?
Therapy is typically 16 sessions, but longer or shorter therapies can be offered depending on your needs and circumstances. I work at the Centre on Wednesdays.
I am also able to offer the following to healthcare professionals:
- Personal therapy for CAT practitioner & psychotherapy trainees
- Personal therapy for trainee and qualified psychologists (clinical, forensic, counselling)
- Personal CAT reformulations
- Clinical supervision
- CAT supervision
- Training and consultation to other professionals or services
- Psychological formulation

My work is underpinned by a set of beliefs that I hold. I believe all human beings have intrinsic worth and we all have the capacity and potential for growth and change. We are relationship seeking beings and I believe the therapeutic relationship should be unique to any other. It is at the heart of the Counselling process and is the vehicle of change. I work in a holistic manner as this is simply how we exist in the world, I believe in treating the individual as a whole.
I will provide a warm, empathetic, non judgement environment. As my work is underpinned by the belief that we are all unique and you are the expert on yourself together we will work collaboratively to tailor your therapy to benefit you most. Catherine Groombridge : Psychotherapist
We all experience times in our lives when we need a safe place to ground ourselves, learn new ways of coping and navigate the path ahead. In order for life to evolve and unfold in a way that we can reach our potential, we sometimes need to be supported and taught techniques to cope and be empowered.
I have been supporting people as a Psychotherapist and Hypnotherapist for 13 years and still love meeting and helping each person to achieve their goals.
I am a fully qualified therapist in Psychotherapy, Hypnotherapy, Emotional Freedom Therapy (EFT) and Mindfulness. I can work with you to make positive changes in a safe, non-judgemental environment and empower you with techniques that you can continue to use throughout your life.
I have experience working with all age groups, particularly young people.
I have successfully helped people with a whole range of trauma and phobias. There are techniques which in some cases can eliminate a phobia which has been preventing the person from living a life free from fear, within a few sessions.
If you are someone who has experienced trauma which causes you pain and discomfort, I can help you to release this safely in order for you to rebuild your life into one that you want and deserve to live.
We will take things steadily and plan a way forward, together.

Hi there, and thanks for taking a look at my profile.
What’s going on for you at this moment in time?
Probably a more searching question would be, what are you struggling with presently?

I believe you, as the client, hold the answers and awarenesses you need, and that with the right therapeutic relationship you can discover the change and clarity you seek.

Opal Tatton, BSc (Hons), MBACP, Counsellor and Psychotherapist
About me
Hello, my name is Opal. Thank you for taking the time out of your day to consider counselling/psychotherapy with me.
I understand that right now you may be experiencing a range of conflicting thoughts, feelings and emotions. The beginning of this process can certainly feel daunting, or may not, especially in current times but you reading this is a huge step in itself!
What I offer and my approach
I am a qualified and experienced, British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) registered, Humanistic and Integrative Counsellor and Psychotherapist offering a safe, warm and confidential space to work together through life’s difficulties from a holistic stance – valuing you as a whole person. This could be to explore anxiety, depression, abuse, low self-esteem, relationship and family issues or something else. Please do contact me to explore something else if needed. We would work together in a collaborative way, at your own pace with regular reviews to see how things are going for you. I hope to initiate positive change and more rewarding ways of living, through putting you the client, at the centre of the therapy, establishing and maintaining a healthy therapeutic relationship between us (working relationally/interpersonally) and allowing you the autonomy and choice to find your own solutions in life, whilst supporting you through this.
My viewpoint is that we all have the power to make changes, but sometimes need to explore elements of the past, present and future and need support to achieve this.
I may also integrate elements of other counselling modalities such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) working towards changing thought processes and behaviours, and Mindfulness Based Therapy using meditation or visualisation/imagery for example, which will be tailored to you as an individual, as therapy is not a one size fits all approach.
If suited to you and our work together, I may also offer “psycho education” to really find meaning and understand what is going on for you from a psychological point of view. This can be powerful in honouring and normalising your experiences and understanding your “true self”.
You may be struggling through the day, feeling stuck and alone with this. I promise to really hear you and offer an empathic, non-judgemental approach, whilst gently challenging to initiate change and personal growth. You may feel that you have never really been “heard” or haven’t in a very long time.
Availability and fees
I offer face to face sessions in one of the lovely rooms here at The Magnolia Therapy Centre and both short term and long term therapy, best suited to your individual needs and before making a start we can explore this.
With my current availability, I am able to offer in person sessions on weeknight evenings (Tues – Thurs) around 6pm, and some Saturdays. We can keep when we meet flexible in line with our needs and other commitments.
Session fees are £50 for one hour.
Please feel free to contact me, if you would like to explore any of this further.
The Beginning
Initially, I offer a free of charge, introductory 20 minute telephone or video call (the choice is yours). This is to answer any questions or address any concerns you may have, explore your wants and needs from therapy, and anything else you would like to explore within this timeframe.
I understand this is a big step and there is no pressure to commit to further sessions. It is about you as an individual, addressing the above and seeing how we fit to begin with. We can then work together during initial sessions, to assess if I am the best fit and right Counsellor/Psychotherapist to support you.
Please feel free to contact me by email or via phone – call/text (I may be unable to answer, but please do leave an answerphone message, and I will get back to all enquires as soon as possible).

Dr. Mark Hudson, BSc (Hons), PG Cert, MRes, DClinPsy, AFBPsS, CPsychol
Hello, I’m a clinical psychologist and specialise in supporting families where a child or young adult has developmental differences. I offer family-focused support which involves understanding your needs as parents, recognising the parenting journey you have been on, and considering your child’s particular developmental strengths and needs. The therapeutic support I offer is tailored to each family, and may involve sessions with parents or children themselves, parent-child sessions, or the whole family together. I take a relational and developmental approach to therapy, which is informed by systemic family therapy, mentalisation-based treatment, Theraplay®, and cognitive-behavioural approaches. I am also interested in engaging neurodivergent children using digital play therapy, utilising mediums such as Minecraft.
I work with children and young people aged between 6-25 years, who may be experiencing a range of emotional, behavioural, or developmental difficulties, including:
- Feeling sad, fearful, or angry
- Having difficulties in relationships with peers or family members
- Behaving in ways that are challenging to others
- Finding it difficult to engage in education
- Differences in social communication and interaction, attention, or learning (which may be diagnosed in terms of Autism, ADHD, or Learning Disability).
If your child’s needs are unclear, but you feel as though they are struggling in areas such as those outlined above, then a psychological assessment could be useful. I offer comprehensive assessments which lead to a formulation of the difficulties, and where appropriate, a diagnosis of a mental health or neurodevelopmental condition.
I have worked as a Chartered Clinical Psychologist for over 10 years, across the NHS, third sector, higher education, and independent practice. I am an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society, a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, and an HCPC-registered Practitioner Psychologist. My experience has spanned work for NHS inpatient and community CAMHS teams, a special school for autistic children, and autism diagnostic clinics. I am also an Assistant Professor on a Clinical Psychology doctoral training programme.
Contact information and fees:
The most important part of beginning to work together is establishing a safe, trusting relationship where you can feel assured that I have your family’s best interests in mind. I begin getting to know families with a short telephone call where you can talk about your hopes for the work, current challenges, and past experiences of support. After this, I offer a more in-depth assessment lasting 90 minutes. This is an opportunity to discuss your child’s needs and to consider what type of support would be most beneficial. I charge £120 per hour for therapeutic work.
It is best to contact me by email in the first instance: mark@hudsonclinicalpsychology.co.uk. Further details about my work can be found on my website: www.hudsonclinicalpsychology.co.uk
