Reflexology at The Magnolia Therapy Centre, Nottingham

What is Reflexology?

🦶🏽Reflexology is based on the principal that reflex points on the feet and hands correspond to organs, glands, and other parts of the body and that by applying pressure and massaging these points, the reflexologist can help identify any imbalances, work on those areas to release congestion and improve a client’s overall health and wellbeing.   The massage will involve various techniques such as rubbing, kneading, applying pressure and rotating the joints enabling the therapist to fully treat the areas of tension and congestion in the body, encouraging the body to start healing itself.

🦶🏽A brief history of Western reflexology

The art of reflexology dates back to Ancient Egypt, India and China but this therapy was not introduced to the West until Dr William Fitzgerald developed ‘Zone therapy’ in the early 1900s. He believed that reflex areas on the feet and hands were linked to other areas and organs of the body within the same zone.

🦶🏽In the 1930’s, Eunice Ingham further developed this zone therapy into what is recognised as reflexology. Her opinion was that congestion or tension in any part of the foot is mirrored in the corresponding part of the body.

🦶🏽Reflexology can be a wonderfully relaxing experience where you can take time out from everyday pressures. The therapist’s expert touch will help you relax which can help improve mood, aid sleep and relieve tension. The result is an overall sense of wellbeing.

Papillon – Geraldine Chesta - Comfort and Relaxation through touch

Hi, I’m Géraldine and I want to help people feel good through health and wellbeing therapies. I’ve lived in Nottingham since 1999 and am originally from Antibes in the South of France.

Through my own experience with chronic illnesses (MS), I’ve used and discovered the many benefits holistic therapies offer and how important it is to have some ‘me’ time.

I’m happy to have studied in Nottingham and in France to become a fully qualified Reflexologist.

Reflexology is the application of pressure to areas on the feet (or the hands). By massaging and stimulating the reflex points of your feet, healing is provided in the corresponding organs of your body by removing energy blockages, healing imbalances, improving circulation, soothing pain and inflammation and easing tension and promote detoxification.

With Reflexology I aim to restore and relax your wellbeing, maximising your body’s wonderful capacity to heal. Pain, psychological symptoms, such as anxiety and stress may be reduced. Reflexology can also enhance relaxation and sleep.

I have completed additional training in maternity reflexology.

Reflexology

The benefits of reflexology include its ability to stimulate nerve function, increase energy, boost circulation, induce a deep state of relaxation, and eliminate toxins from the body.  Moreover, it helps stimulate the central nervous system, prevent migraines, and treat urinary tract conditions. This type of massage speeds up recovery after an injury or surgery, reduces sleep disorders, and relieves depression and pain. It also helps in relieving side effects associated with cancer treatment and even soothe the pain of pregnancy, even the one occurring after delivery.

Chakra Balancing Reflexology

( using reflexology to balance the seven chakras of the body, to restore  the body’s natural equilibrium setting, you on the road, to peace, calm, harmony ) using a fusion of aromatic oils conducive to a specific chacra.

I have 25 years of working as a massage therapist in multiple settings, including spas. I offer a gentle, relaxation-focused Swedish massage for women. Designed to calm the nervous system, ease everyday tension, and promote a sense of deep relaxation and wellbeing.  I focus on slow, flowing strokes with some gentle pressure and focus on areas of tension. I do not offer a deep tissue or sports massage, as my aim is no pain, just peace. I aim to provide an unhurried, indulgent, comfort-led, experience where you can escape from the busy-ness of everyday life for a little while.

I also offer a clothed massage option for those who prefer not to undress or prefer a massage without oils.

Reflexology

I have been a Reflexologist for 25 years and enjoying practicing this treatment and the many benefits it offers. Reflexology is a gentle, non-invasive therapy rooted in both traditional practices and modern wellbeing approaches. It involves applying light, precise pressure to specific points on the feet that relate to different areas and systems of the body. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, many of these points align with acupuncture points and energy pathways (meridians), which are believed to support balance and overall wellbeing, promoting a feeling of relaxation throughout the whole body, easing tension, and supporting the nervous system
